Catie Cuan is a performer, choreographer, and technologist. She is a 2018 TED Resident, ThoughtWorks Arts Resident, and the Artist-in-Residence at the Robotics, Automation, and Dance Lab at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Her two current projects are OUTPUT, created during her residency at ThoughtWorks Arts, and Time to Compile, a long term collaboration with the Robotics, Automation, and Dance Lab at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Find out more about both projects on the Projects page.
Catie has performed with the Metropolitan Opera Ballet, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Lisa Bielawa/Charlie Otte, Gateway Playhouse, CATAPULT Entertainment, Clare Cook Dance Theater, Katherine Helen Fisher, Christina Noel and the Creature, and Elena Vazintaris, in addition to performance projects with Broadway choreographer Peggy Hickey. She has appeared in commercials and materials for Schindler Elevators, Standard Vision, Rio Soul Shoes, and Ziel Wear. Catie performed Off-Broadway in [PRESS PLAY] and Lemon Meringue, two original plays with dance. She danced the lead role of The Firebird in The Acadiana Symphony Orchestra's production of Stravinsky's The Firebird, with original choreography by Clare Cook.
In addition to her performing career, her passion for technology is evidenced by her previous work experience at Google, YouTube, and Bain & Company. She was Vice President at Color + Information, a digital and video agency in Brooklyn, NY and the Digital Expert at Gaynor Minden.
Her choreography (without machines) has been presented at venues and festivals such as the Actors Fund Arts Center, DanceNOW Raw, the Brooklyn Dance Festival, University Settlement, Green Space, Zellerbach Room 7, NY Theater Barn Choreography Lab, and The Tank, where she won the inaugural XYZNYC Choreography Competition.
A native Californian, she graduated with High Honors from UC Berkeley and was a visiting student at the University of Oxford. Catie is currently a graduate student in the Mechanical Engineering department at Stanford University.
